I have the pleasure of installing and configuring a 800 DID board tomorrow. Is there a cheat sheet or a checklist for doing this. The Avaya documentation is kinda cumbersome.

Thanks in advance.

How many digits are your extensions? Does the range that the lec gave you match the present ext range? You can tell the lec to send 3 or 4 digits. You may have to renumber extensions to fit into the range from the lec.

After renumbering as Furball8675309 suggests to the did range go into lines and trunks, did and step thru the options and program to coincide with the provider.

The 9 numbers are 4 digit and they dont match my extension numbers. There are 4 trunk lines.

Go into renumbering and change ext to the numbers the provider is sending. You can just change the nine ext if you want. When you put the did trunks into the switch reverse the tip and ring.

well here is the problem that i ran into.
They are using a 2 digit numbering scheme.
If I have ext 66, and the DID that I'm renimbering to is 2527, i'm gonna have to renumber 20-29 in order to get the DID in that range.
Our DID numbers jump all over from 1904 to 8585, so basically we would have to renumber the entire system. Or we could point our DID numbers to 9 numbers in the 6000 range and just renumber ext 60-69.

This is what tech support told me.
Does this make any sense to you guys?

Yes, it makes sense, having been a Tier-3 Tech support my self.

It's not easy when they give you NON-SEQUENTIAL D-I-D numbers.

The problem is, you can only massage 2 sets of DIGITS with D-I-D.

Is PRI an option from this vendor? (That would take a T1 card, rather than D-I-D)

With PRI, you can have 16 TABLES to switch routes around.

These things take planning and coordination between the folks who program the switch and the people who sell the service.

It looks like that didn't happen here.

If you can get the vendor to give you something SEQUENTIAL, you will be a lot better off.

What they are providing you now, may not be able to be used.

Who is the DID provider? they are getting over on you. Make them provide DID's that work better with your numbering plan. Your local vendor should have said the same thing.

they are providing numbers that fit our numbering plan. I probably wont have them until tomorrow, but I gave them the numbers I wanted and they are able to give them to me.

This has definitely been a learning experience.

The CLEC gave me 6701-6707. In my 2-digit plan I am not using 67. I am temporarily using 61-66.

On my system I already have ext 6700-6706 in the system that aren't being used. I tried to renumber 6700 to 6707 so that my new DID numbers would fit , however I could not get 6700 to renumber.

that is because your using 6707 in your dial plan, you have to renumber to like
try 6843

renumber 6700 to 6843
renumber 6707 to 6844
renumber 6843 to 6707
