Dear all,

Would like to hear from all of your professional advises in troubleshooting a DID card. Incoming-only DID from carrier. My situation is that a fax machine was assigned an extension and a DID also and this number when called sometimes it'll go thru and hear ringing and sometimes it won't ring at all just dead air.

many thanks in advance.

Renumber a display phone to receive DID calls. Label the DID trunks so you know which one is which. Place repeated calls to the test phone while watching the display to see if one of your incoming trunks repeatedly fails. If you find a faulty trunk, swap it with a good on on the DID card, and see if the problem follows the trunk or the trunk position. If it stays with the trunk, no matter which port it is connected to, next try reversing the polarity on that trunk (sometimes a cable splicer will accidently flip it in the outside plant). If that doesn't change it, put it back the way it was and call the telco for repair. They can individually look at each trunk from the CO and make sure that they can "see" the Magix from their end.

You can test each port on the DID card by putting your test set on the pairs at the d-mark and calling any ext in the system. Your test set has to be set the same as the programming in the switch for signaling, (rotary or TT). And as TTT says the polarity is important, it goes into the legend reversed. When you go off hook on your test set you should hear the wink.

thanks guys for the input.....
