I have a Merlin Magix with an 012 TDL, a 2-way T1 w/ 24 channels, and 2 separate T1's with 4 channels on each being used for voice at separate locations. I am trying to add a tie line board to connect another location and have hit the 80 trunk numbering limit even though it is technically using way less than 80 trunks. Is there any way to "tell" the point to point T1's that they really, in fact, only have 4 channels working to give me some back, or do I have to go another route? Like making them OPX's to the new location? (I am using a front-end VoIP box to send voice signal over a T1 to the new location.) Thanks - Diana

One way to recover some trunks would be to use a Digital Crossconnect type device. With this type of device the unused DS1 channels can be recovered for your purpose in order to add other trunks or locations to the system using drop and insert techniques. I believe ADTRAN makes such devices, but I don't have the model number(s) at this time. Try their website adtran.com or call for a sales engineer @ 800-923-8726.

Hope this helps!

So would I just go under lines and trunks and delete the trunks not being used on the T1's? If so, how would I get the system to number the E&M trunks? Or...what would happen if I put one of the T1's in the last board? It seems like, if it hits the "numbering wall" at the 80th trunk, that having a T1 board that is only using 4 trunks at the end might be get around the problem and let the system "see" the E&M tie line board...
