Hi

I have a CPx and I purchased a 80 GB drive. I can not install XP pro SP2 on it. I noticed that with the drive is installed and I hit F2 and go to BIOS the screen is locked up. If I replace it with the original drive, the BIOS screen is active. What can or should I do. I was installing XP when I got an error about setupdd.sys code 4. I looked up the error and it states that I have something that will not work in XP. The example they gave was memory. Would that also lock up the BIOS? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Have you set the jumpers correctly on the new drive?
It could be memory, but if the machine works OK with the old drive installed I dought that this is your problem. Ensure that the cable is correctly installed & that you have the jumpers set correctly. If you are using cable select, then try master.

This may be a case of having a drive that is too large for the BIOS/PC to recognize and utilize fully. Is the original drive less than 32Gb?

Is there a jumper setting that will 'clip' the size to 32Gb - does it work then?

You'll need to check for a BIOS update or go to the drive manufacturers site for a download that will allow you to use the full capacity - 'drive overlay software', Ontrack is one example.
