8 Port 3com Switch problem

I need to wheelout Windows 2000 accross the board. To help me I have purchased an 8 port switch (3com 3c16794)to sit on my desk and allow me to run several machines from my old fly lead.

The new machines I have purchased have net adapters running at 100mps. My problem is my hub seems to got sleep. It has only happened 2 once this morning and once over the lunch hour. I have to pull the power lead out wait a few secs and then put it back in. Really strange, I have checked the obvious any ideas.

I have had the same problem with my 3c16794, I asked for a new one, in the mean time I have put all network cards on 100Mbit full duplex (the obvious?> and that seems to have helped... Before the switch turned itself of every hour or so,now it keeps working for more than a week.

How many switches office connect 8 ports 3C16791 can be interconnected in the same line ?
