I have installed a 10 gig fujitsu drive in my toshiba satellite 310 cds. I have flashed the Bios with the latest flash from toshiba.
am running windows 2000 professional.

I had windows 95 original with a 2.1 gig drive, and I upgraded to win 98, then went to 2000.

I am sure that there is a way to get the computer to see the complete 10 gigs, but I cannot find solution.

is there any overlay software proven to break the 8 gig barrier for toshiba? Toshiba.com says there are 10 gig and larger drives that will work.

My toshiba bios will not let me change cyls, heads sectors, in fact it will not even display my drive settings.
the laptop works perfectly well but only sets up as 8.2 gig.

please help
thanks much.

Hi upchuckies,

From Toshiba's HDD FAQ:

=======SNIP=======

Q: My system is not able to recognize all available capacity on my Hard Disk Drive. What do I need to do to utilize the complete hard drive?
A: There are some systems that are unable to recognize the new larger Hard Drives on the market. 3rd party software is available that breaks the "capacity barrier". Some suggestions are EZ Drive by Phoenix Technologies and Disk Manager® DiskGo by Ontrack. Check with your local computer/software supplier for availability or contact the software manufacturer.

FWIW: This is not a recommended fix, as recovery can be difficult from an overlaid drive, and overlays tend to be a bit hinky (prone to failure). RTFM about your overlay choice to learn about making rescue preparations. If you can live in 8gigs, that would be best; then start looking for a newer box.
