I have a box that I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on. It is a P4 1.8Ghz with 1 gig of memory, and Win2k server. Seems like it'd be plenty. When I try and run the setup file off the CD, it doesn't do any thing. I can monitor the processes on the server, and I see that it starts setup, but it just disappears and setup doesn't commence.

I can install this on a different machine that is a P3 1Ghz with no probs.

Any ideas on how to get this to run?

You are running into a well-known bug in Oracle 8.1.7, which doesn't install properly on Pentium IV computers. Please see faq186-1124 for details and work-arounds.

The alternative is to install Oracle 9i, which doesn't have this problem.

That's great. Thanks for the quick response.
