Hello,

I just purchased a new IP Office 500 V2 system and installed 8.0 to start configuring. Now I have the 8.1 CD and my licenses, but attempts to upgrade to 8.1 fail.

This is a brand new system, I've not entered any licenses yet and have not made the first phone call.

I assumed since I've not installed any licenses and that it was so new that I would be able to install the latest version.

Have I screwed myself by installing 8.0 instead of waiting a day to install 8.1?

TIA!

Yes you did.
When you have read the tech bulletin 8.1 then you would have noticed this stupid new "feature"

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

UGGHHHH. Who came up with THAT idea!?

dammit.

Wait ... Tech bulletin 145 says:

Code:
3 IP Office Licensing Changes
3.1 Upgrade License 6
Existing systems being upgraded to Release 8.1 will require an appropriate upgrade
license. [b]The exception is new systems upgraded within 90 days of first power up[/b].

Am I missing something?

Maybe I have to make the first call on the system to mark the "in-service" date, after which the 90-days starts?

No need, it will upgrade IF you use the correct password, but it will only run in quick/basic mode :)

<sigh>

I checked the mode, changed to Basic edition (from Basic - Partner). I erased the security settings and tried both "password" and "Administrator" for the upgradeWiz passwords, but I still get "Failed. Failed. Failed. ..."

Any ideas?

Correction, I changed to Basic mode from Standard Mode, upgrade failed in both modes.

Hi has it been more than 90 days since the first power up of the system. If so then you need to purchase an upgrade license or you can only use it upto 8.0.
I would be willing to log onto your pc for you and try to upgrade if its any help.

Cheers

Even without a licence and beyond 90 days is should still allow an upgrade it just throws a wobbler afterwards (system shows as unlicenced and will not function), Avaya test random units at production and that can alter the default passwords, you may need to reset them using the reset button :)

kuldeep72: No, I first powered it up yesterday (Tuesday).

amriddle01: I'll try that tomorrow.

Thanks!

Make sure you read up how to use the reset button, different lengths of press does different things :)

No luck. I reset using the reset button (to orange flashing) and tried to upgrade with password and Administrator and the process still fails with either password.

:(

Code:
Upgrading to particular levels of IP Office software require a Software Upgrade X license where X is a
number. The Licensed and Required License columns indicate the current highest upgrade license the
system has and the required software upgrade license for the currently installed software.
· It does not indicate the license requirement for the level of software in the Available column.
· For IP500 V2 systems, a value of 255 indicates that the control unit is still in its initial 90 days where it can
be upgraded without requiring a license.

My upgradeWiz does not say 255. I think I need to proceed with entering licenses, making a call to set the in-service date and then try to upgrade since I'll be within my initial 90 days. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just to report back, after entering all of my license info and registering a phone, the license values in UpgradeWiz changed to 255 (within the 90 day free upgrade period) and the upgrade proceeded without issue.

Have a great weekend!
