I'm running Call Manager 9.1. I've got an end-user with a 7941 and no headset of any kind. When he picks up the handset to make or answer a call, he hears nothing. He has to press the headset button on his phone to get the line active. Very odd. The handset is NOT plugged into the headset port on the back of the phone. Other settings:

Wideband Headset = Disabled
Auto Call Select = Enabled
Auto Line Select = Disabled

Any idea what this might be?

Have you tried a different phone?

Not yet, though that is my next step. I wanted to see if this might be a config issue before I replaced the phone.

Personally I have never seen something like that.

To heck with it - I just replaced the phone and all is well.

Yeah, if a phone is acting weird, try a different phone with that programming and if it doesn't follow its the phone.

Try a factory reset on it, that might clear up some software issues

You probably have a bad hook switch causing the phone to go into headset mode.

Whycap has a good point, 40's and 41's were prone to that issue.

Yup - An internet search turned up the bad switchook problems on the 40's and 41's. Supposedly, there is a self-cleaning contact on them, but it doesn't appear to work. More likely the self-cleaning contact was added to later models. I learned that our help desk just tosses the 40's and 41's when they go bad. They aren't worth fixing.
