7941 / 7961 Hookswitch Issues 2

Hello,

Just curious... has anyone had any issues with the hookswitches on 7941's and 7961's? To be more clear, we have had to replace approx. 1-3 phones per week.

The symptoms are that when picking up the receiver, there is no dial tone. On an inbound call the call cannot be answered unless the hookswitch is manually pressed several times in succession. We have a mix of 7941's, 7961's, 7942's, 7962's but the issue is only occurring on the 7941's and 7961's. They were all purchased new approx. 3 years ago and there has not been anything spilled into them. I opened one up, as they are no longer on warranty, and cleaned the contact as Cisco recommends but the problem persists.

Again, I was just curious to see if anyone else had this issue or perhaps these were all part of a bad production batch of phones.

I've seen it with the older 7940 and 41 sets, it was pretty common. It's the spring on the hookswitches that fail. Since you have no maintenance, you can try replacing them through gray market, or find a company that makes the spring replacements. I know someone does for a fact, but couldn't tell you who. Google it.
 
Thank you whykap, that's exactly what we were looking for. And yes, after comparing the hookswitch mechanism with that of the 79x2 series, it's entirely different. They beefed up the springs on the 79X2 series so it's obvious that there was an issue.

Sometimes the phone is sitting too upright thus not hanging up the receiver; user can't answer the call or get dial tone unless they press the line button. Corrected by just lowering the angle.
