I've got a 740 with a new fuser, roller, charge grid and all new tek toner carts. It prints very good on bright or coated paper (I use 92 brite color copier paper). I also get good results on other papers.

My problem is with label stock for CD/DVDs. I've tried various label suppliers for color laser printers but continue to have the same results with every type of label stock.

Problems:

Start up with first run, first label good but the second label flakes off on the same sheet if two separate labels are printed on same page.

All subsequent label pages I have two problems, streaking (all colors but mostly black) across the top of the label page and the first label is ghosted onto the lower part of the page and flakes. OR if two separate labels are printed on the same page both are 50%=70% flaked off.

These results happen with both glossy or matte finished labels.

Anyone with suggestions?

I must say that Xerox has kept a great support site for the Phasers. I believe this may address your issue, and all knowledgebase answers have a direct link at the bottom of thier answer page.

I searched on "flaking"
my experience is 740's are picky with respect to humidity and paper.

I suspect your problem may be with the print engine firmware. Version 24 addressed a bug that caused what was called cold offset, basically what you described, toner not fused and flakes off when using coated or label media. If you look at the start up or configuation page there is a line iten that id's firmware versions, you are looking for one that says: Eng v.24, you may have v17 or v21. The other issue may be if you are not using that media from the manual feeder and specifying the media type then you can also experience what you described. Using the media you mention you need to run it through the manual feeder and also set the printer for that type media via the front panel.
