anyone who knows how to set up (connect) the 7315-C02 Hardware Management Console to a pSeries machine?
do you use the port marked s1 or s2 to connect the pSeries machine to the HMC-machine?

how do you quit from the HMC console window (GUI) when the console hangs (window freeze).
cannot right-click and close... doesn't respond

We have 2 physical machines which both have 2 aix 'instances' installed on them.

Do you use the hostname when you add a machine to the IBM 7315-C02 HCM, or do you use the Machine-type and model?

sH

If the GUI doesn't response for some reason you can always manually reset the HMC from the reset button!

I'm not sure if i got your second comment but to add a machine to an HMC to manage it, you have to add the managed system using the name of that managed system or even the IP of the service processor.

Currently we have 2 pSeries machines connected to 1 HMC.
Recently we have purchased a new HCM to have 1 HMC on each of the pSeries machines.
Is it so that I can connect one of the pSeries machines to a new HMC at the same time as it is connected to the old one? I just want to get it up and running on the new one before disconnecting it from the old one.

If i'm not wrong coz it has been some time since i attended the course but i think you can have both of your HMCs connected to both your systems!

I remember i asked this question to the teacher in the course! i asked what will happen if my HMC crashes? how would i get back my information (LPARs profiles) and he said that they are stored in an NVRAM inside each system so i can just connect a new HMC and get the information from the NVRAM. But he said that i can have two HMCs connected to one system for redundancy.

let me come back to you on this.

Khalid

Well, it worked quite well just connecting the pSeries machine to the new HMC. just one other thing, something called the 'FullSystemPartition' it says not available. anyone knows what this means. we have 2 lpars on this pSeries machine.

sH

So now how does your configuration look like?

Are both HMC connected to both systems?

Code:
All the partitioning-capable pSeries servers also support a special type of logical
partition, called the Full System Partition. In a Full System Partition, only one
operating system instance runs in the system. This instance has access to all the
resources installed in the system. In Full System Partition, a partitioning-capable
pSeries server acts as an conventional pSeries SMP server, except for the
performance and enhanced reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS)
feature.

pSeries machines 1 and 2 are connected to the 'old' HMC.
pSeries machine 2 are also connected to the 'new' HMC...
seems to work quite well. it came up automatically on the 'new' HMC console.
