you have enough space but you should check the firmware level your running. It may need to be upgraded so the system can run 52 or 53. Dont upgrade to 51 since it went end of life april-01-2006.

i am pretty sure AIX 5.2 and 5.3 are only supported on CHRP architecture. the 7043-140 is PReP.

I see that the 7043-140 is PRep. so you are stating that the OS cannot be upgraded to V5.x??

gbarth is right. 7043-140's are not supported on anything after AIX 5.1. Doesn't mean you can't try to get it running, but some of your hardware may not work anymore.

if PRep refers to a micro channel based system, then yes 5.1 was the last version suppported on that type of platform. otherwise, i don't see an issue with it.

Breslau,
PReP (PowerPC Reference Platform) machines are PCI, but they pre-date the CHRP standard. They were built durring the transition from POWER/MCA to PowerPC/PCI. This includes the rs/6000 laptops and a few of the original pci systems. It also would include early PowerPC based Macs.

As above, you need a CHRP (common hardware reference platform) to run anything later than 5.1. The 140 will not run anything later than 5.1. The first CHRP machines were the silver node and the 7025 - F50, although some low end mechines produced since this time (about 98 I think) were still not chrp.
