I agree - I installed 5.3 without an issue on a 7025-F50 before Christmas.

As long as you put new firmware on first you should have no problems going to 5.2 or 5.3.
Don't forget to do the adapter and device firmware / microcode while you are at it.
The "Microcode survey and update tools" link is worth a look.
You may find some of the devices in the F50 are not supported at AIX 5.2, they dropped some things like old ethernet and graphics cards.
