It's probably not proper protocol in here to announce that you didn't pass a test...everyone in here seems to do a good job of passing them. However I missed passing this test by one question...kind of funny if you think about it. I have to say that the Transcenders did me little good, nor did the Microsoft Press books. I'm debating whether to retake it or just forget about it. Who's to say I would pass it the next time because I guessed on a lot of questions. The sobering fact is that I invested a lot of time and money in failing a test. Maybe someone out there can give me a few pointers. Thanks...

It's all the same. You can't read a book and take a practice test and be a programmer, systems administrator, or anything else.

You actually have to have some hands-on... that's the good news and the bad news...

I know it's not as inexpensive; but you really need to see all of that stuff on the screen and fiddle around with it in order to meet the prerequisites...

Good Luck!!

I'm sure you wouldn't be the first one to fail a test, and its not the end of the world. I'm sure you won't be the last either. I have my MCSA practical and tests coming up in July, so am working towards them.

If it makes you feel any better though, I have failed my UK car practical driving test 3 times.

Actually, I head that that particular VB test had a 1st time failure rate of about 75%. I passed it in 2001 (Exam Cram, Transcender, Oreilly's MCSD book and 2 years daily coding) by the skin of my teeth - my lowest score on my four exams by about a 100 points. Everyone thinks the Distributed exam should be harder so they take it second, but it's actually much, much easier.

I'd advise you to hop back on, but those exams are being retired (I'm pretty sure) in a couple of months, so I'm not sure you'd even have time to complete an MCSD for VB6.

Good luck whatever you decide, and yes - it is a VERY tough exam.

Rob999 is exactly right... and he mentioned O'Reilly, who puts out a very, very good selection of books on my important "real-life" computer topics...

Of course, MS wants everyone to dance to the .NET tunes now... but if your strengths are with VB6, go for it quickly!!

Hey man don't agonize over it. The tests are hard, and, in my opinion, I think alot of these tests, a person could fail and still really know the material pretty well, well enough to be a pretty good developer in the given technology. As for everyone in here seeming to do a good job of passing them, I wouldn't be so sure you're in the minority, maybe the others just don't say so when they fail, so I seriously doubt you're alone. The most frustrating part is probably that you failed by one question. I have to think on one hand, that's tougher to accept than failing with a 20% score because you know you were this close, but on the other, it leads me to believe if you take the results printout and study the areas you did not so well in, you can definitely pass the test.

Good luck.

I'm happy to report that I passed this exam today. The test was exactly the same as the previous week. This gives me the encouragement to keep on keeping on as they say. I was probably whining too much earlier. And thanks for your support. Now it's time for the next test...
