Version 7.6.300 with patches, using Pervasive SQL 2000i

On one workstation, when I sign into windows using an administrator rights user, I can use PWE no problem. However when I sign in as the normal user, when I try to open PWE I get a window "Please wait while Windows configures MS Publisher 2000". If I click cancel 5 times eventually I can get into PWE and get to work.

If I actually insert the Publisher 2000 CD and let it install, I get the error "Error 1706. No Valid Source could be found for product MS Publisher 2000. The windows installer cannot continue."

Any ideas why this is only happening on this workstation only when the non-administrator signs in? There is nothing on this in infomine.

Any help is appreciated.

Just a thought from a novice - I am not extremely well versed on the windows registry, however, if a different "KEY" is accessed depending on who is logging in then it would seem possible that the following link, while not precisely your problem, might at least point you in the right direction -

Yes, I have been thinking of a registry error as well, however this error does not occur when I am signed into the machine as an administrator.

This makes me think it is a rights issue, however all the rights look pretty good to me.

Don - I know your problem relates to MS Publisher, but I've seen that occur with MS Office, and it related to how MS Office was originally installed - maybe try reinstalling MS Publisher? Here's Exact's solution to the MS Office problem;

Even though it appeared that the Office 2000 installation completed, it did not. This can also be caused by installing only the first disk for Office 2000 because you do not plan on using any of the software on the second disk.
To Resolve:
Open Notepad.
Type a few words in the document.
Highlight what you just typed, right-click and select Copy.
Open a new document in Word and then paste the words.
This will complete the installation and get rid of the message.
You can also follow the suggested resolution listed in Q228655 out on Microsoft's Website under Search\Knowledge Base.

And one other thing.... most MS applications (and Crystal too) install 'lightly' on workstations nowadays. What that means, is that not all of the components are installed when you select 'typical', allowing for a smaller installation (disk space wise). When components are required that weren't installed during the 'typical' install, you're prompted for the appropriate CD. You can prevent this in most cases, by selecting 'custom' during the install process. Most MS applications have an option during the 'custom' install to 'run all from workstation' meaning all of the components will be installed to the workstation. This means none of the components will be pulled from the network, or the installation CD when they are required.

I tried the reinstall of MS Publisher to no avail. I have placed a call with tech support at this point. I will keep the thread updated.

Thanks for your replies.
