In 7.6.300, when you print invoices, it prints invoices for status 1 (booked orders) as well as status 8 (orders selected for billing).

Now THATS a problem! Not sure how that changed, but if you look at document 07.209.213 you can see the problem documented and the fix.

So glad they waited to release this product to be sure it was really stable and solid . . .

How could a QC dept miss a big hole like this? And, why would they have made significant changes in the 7.6.300 release to the invoice printing program? I know they've incorporated Peak Best of OE into this release, but Peak has never had a problem with invoice processing in the 15 years I've worked with the program.

We were one of the clients on the 'bleeding edge' that discovered the invoicing problem on 7.6.300. Typically I am not one to 'rush out' and install a new release when it comes out - but.....

We recently implemented MRP with Macola and ran into a bug with MRP computing incorrect requirements when copying sales orders from OE. Once Macola finally admitted there was a problem, they assured us it was fixed in the 'next release'. I questioned our reseller if this was Macola's typical MO for supplying patches to clients. To my surprise I was told YES.

How do people stand for this kind of (or lack of) support?

Of course when we installed 7.6.300 and we ran into the invoicing problem I was wondering if I was going to have to wait for 7.6.400 for the fix! :)

Fortunately they found the problem and put out the patch within a couple of days. I hope other people have had better experience when it comes to support with Macola.

Am I being unreasonable in thinking when a bug is discovered in a software program a patch should be provided as soon as possible vs fixing it in the next release? Macola would definately be unique if they subscribe to the next release mentality.

Crossing my fingers nothing else in 7.6.300 is broken...

Jim,

Don't just complain here, complain to your reseller and to Exact directly. Let them know an immediate patch is the only acceptable route, and you cannot wait until the next release.

Frankly I wish more end users would complain to Exact.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I have a feeling it will fall on deaf ears (trying to communicate with Exact). For example it recently took over a week to get a new registration code out of them (i.e. calc it and post it to the web site!).

Our reseller has been great. In fact if not for them I probably would have bailed on Macola. Long term though even the best reseller can only do so much if they don't get the support needed from the developer.

I haven't been in the Macola/Exact family very long. Has there been a change since the acguisition of Macola by Exact or has Macola's support always sucked?

Jim

If your reseller can communicate in "program-eze" to the powers that be at macola, you will have greater success getting your fixes. Unfortunately, with a program as complex as macola, with millions of lines of code, what is your enhancement may become another user's bug due to the interdependency of the applications. Plus, we are also dealing with the fact that ES is the product of choice in sales, so the programming fixes for the 7.6+ release will be fewer & farther between & they will also be putting the B squad programmers on this release, performing "maintenance code" instead of development programming. Maybe you'll consider, with the help of your reseller, moving to the bleeding edge of ES & getting some of the manufacturing issues addressed?

Apparently you feel the support for ES code will be better? Are you assuming ES is the answer when it comes to manufacturing issues?

I understand the request for enhancements and the possibility of causes problems for others. Right now enhancements are off my radar screen, I would be happy to get obvious bugs fixed. When MRP cannot correctly calculate requirements it isn't an enhancement in my mind. Then again, I'm new to Macola.....

Don't feel like Robinson Crusoe 62chev.

I know 'Exact'ly what you are going through. We were told by Exact that the problems we were finding in 7.6.200 are fixed in the next release. At that time, the next release was not a release and we had just paid the bucks for consultants to do our 7.6.200 downgrade.

Fortunately, I did complain to our reseller and Exact and their team has really come to the party after a bit of kicking and screaming. It is worth letting them know - some of them actually want to listen and really care. You just have to break down the communication fences a little. Patrick has been a great help to us from Exact. We have received several effective bug fixes with another being tested today. We started with 21 issues and are now down to 2 that are worth mentioning - but are not show stoppers.
