7.6.300/Crystal 1

Anybody know if crystal 7 & 8.5 will both work with 7.6.300 like they do with 7.6.200 & 200.5?

Depends on what you mean by 'will work' - I've definitely run Crystal 7.0 reports over 7.6.300 data with both Pervasive (8.5) and MS/SQL. The bigger question is how a Crystal 7.0 install would affect a Macola client install on a workstation. Macola installs Crystal 8.5 components for viewing ICR's, so potentially there could be a conflict between Macola's 8.5 DLL's and Crystal's 7.0 DLL's. For the most part you should be OK given that Crystal 7.0 and 8.5 used the same report format (remember, in Crystal 8.5 you can save your report in 7.0 format).

For the most part any version of crystal will work with any version of Macola. I have 2 clients using version 1`0 of crystal with no issues.

Peter is right on in that the .dlls installed by the crystal installation may get in the way of the ICRs - integrated crytal reports - available in PWE.

I was referring to the installation routine. In 7.6.200 & 200.5 you get the prompt to ask if you want to use v7 or 8.5 crystal for the ICRs. I haven't had any problems with ICRs leaving them at v7 with 200 & 200.5. I don't have any particular reason to upgrade some of my clients to 8.5 & want to try to do it as a project a little later in the year & do everyone at once. I do have one client that wants to move to 7.6.300 soon & has crystal 7, so was wondering if I had to do crystal as well. Nothing in infomine seems to indicate it is a necessity.

There's a new topic in the infomine ('nugget') regarding this very subject. It's my understanding that you do not get an option to use 7.0 or 8.5 components with 7.6.300 i.e. the ICR's are 8.5 only. None of my clients use the ICR's (because they suck) but I imagine you'll need Crystal 8.5 to modify the ICR's in 7.6.300.

Gawd. Who would ever search by "nugget" to find this information in infomine? I tried crystal, I tried ICR, etc, etc. Sales didn't know the answer to the question. Thank YOU Peter for your insight & you get a star. I suppose if I had been brave enough to install 7.6.300 on my local machine I would have answered my own question, but the bleeding edge is something I avoid like the plague. Spoken like a closet 123 user. Tee-hee.
