Hello All,

I was wondering if there are any folks out there using a CS1000E with the TDM Only Setup? If so, are there any issues I should know before I built our CS1000E with TDM Only?

Any feedback would be appreciated! :)

Basically your key code will drive your configuration. When installing the software when it asks does the system have a signal server just say "no" and continue on. Load the software like you would any other switch, after all it's all still VxWorks which hasn't changed in years.

I have a large CS 1000E with some sites 100% TDM while other sites are 100% IP. It does not matter. Just realize that a CS 1000E TDM is based on the Opt 11C IP cabinets. So its been mainstream for some time.

We have TDM and IP on our CS1000E - the TDM issue is that the system chassis backplane is all IP so if your network is down (hence your Media Gateways) the TDM will be down anwyay. So, you might as well go all IP - especially since license cost for TDM is the same as IP now. The only savings is that TDM phones are a bit cheaper ...

Just my two cents - we had our network fail and it took down the TDM phones too and our Call Center was NOT HAPPY ...

CS1000E TDM is a special "marketing offer" to upgrade 11C into CS1000E with CPPM processor running the Linux version of Call Server and Signalling server. However, the upgrade price is somewhat smaller that a regular CS1000E SA Co-res. Once upgraded to CS1000E TDM, you won't be allowed to purchase IP user licence or SIP trunk licences. The CS1000E TDM will use IP to interconnect all MG1000E together. You can find all details of CS1000E TDM in the rls 6.0 "waht's new" manual.

I have a customer that purchase that type of upgrade some years ago. But now that he's ready to consolidate he's 4 CS1000E into one, we are encountering an ordering issue to convert the CS1000E-TDM into conventional CS1000E-SA. Despite "commercial offering" bulletin claiming that full IP support could be ordered later ( conversion to CS1000E-SA), it looks like the quoting / ordering process is harder to find than expected.

So if you ever want to support SIP trunks to Carrier or PBX, or if you expect to add SIP phones or if you what to interface to AURA, you must avoid CS1000E TDM limited edition and select CS1000E SA.
