Hi - I have tried to install Adobe Pagemaker 7.01 on
a new Centrino Dell 600m laptop. Nothing happens when I hit the install button and I then receive a
System 16-bit unstable error on the laptop.
The Adobe Pagemaker 7.01 has a 32-bit Setup Installer.
I have tried installing in safe mode and still will not work.
I then tried to install on another XP laptop ( IBM) with no problems.
How can I get around the 16-bit/32-bit issue.
Thanks - Valerie9

Hi, Valerie9,

Clearly the disk is fine - it's a problem on your Dell.
Do you have full admin rights?
Can you install other applications from the same drive?

If your purchase is new, then you could also call Adobe tech support.

See for your local contact number.

Hi John -
Yes I have full admin rights.I also contacted Dell and Adobe and they could not help either -
Yes - I have installed other applications on the hard drive.

Thanks - Valerie9

Hi, Valerie9,

Then the only other sugestion I have is that you zap the partition on the Dell and re-install WinXP afresh from the setup CD. It's pretty drastic, but I bet PM will then install.

Most factory installs are far from clean, being imaged rather than genuine fresh installs, and so less than ideal.

AFAIK, Dell supply the WinXP Setup CD - my knowledge of WinXP is weak as I prefer Win2K for PM and chose it for my laptop.

Don't know if this will fix this problem but I'll mention it anyway.

We had a similar problem on NT with the odd user not being able to install. We found that if the user was in too many groups, the install didn't work. I know this sounds dumb, but if we dropped the user below 20 or so groups it actually installed.
