7.0 with 96xx DHCP reg to wrong IPO 1

1-DHCP server

I'm trying to figure a way to tell the phones what their primary server is and its backup.

sometimes when I try to reg a phone at site A it get's it's DHCP but then reg to site B instead.

Nortel sets had a S1 ( server 1 ) and S2 (server 2) prompt on their IP sets but i don't see that option on the 96XX sets.

I assume you use a Windows DHCP server.
Then you need to have this string in option 242:
MCIPADD=192.168.30.1,192.168.30.2

192.168.30.1 is your main ipo and 192.168.30.2 is your backup ipo.

I have tried what you suggested but then site B phone will reg to site A also because of the one DHCP for both locations.

Then you really need to redesign the network and use different IP ranges for both IPO's

I am pretty sure this info is transmitted to the phones when you set the SCN trunk to fallback. it will tell the phones where the backup IPO is. you dont have to do it thru DHCP.

The S1 and S2 field in Nortel is CallSv on 96xx, 16xx phones

You can also enter it manually (via Mute 2 3 3 7 #)

CallSv=nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn

In case you want to do the "partial" DHCP just like in the Nortel

You would enter like this

Phone : 0.0.0.0
CallSv: 10.10.1.1 <=== IPO LAN1 address ( or whatever you have )
Router:0.0.0.0
Mask: 0.0.0.0
Filesv:10.10.1.2 <== or whatever you use for file server

I did this way all the time when I can not get the IT folk to change
the option 242 during emergency deployment and let DHCP treats the phone just like a regular PC client ( just need the IP , mask and GW )

Now that is new information!!!!!!!!!!!
You probably use hotdesking.
When there is nobody logged in and when you have auto create extension id turned on (should be off when using a backup IPO in a SCN) then it registers to the other IPO.

That has nothing to do with it, the issue is the one DHCP server, it will just give out what you tell it, it doesn't know what site/system the handset it supposed to be on that the request has came from so how could it ever magically give out different info for each systems sets?

New info ???

what I did notice yesterday is that Lan 2 had auto create H323 on at site A & B.
Lan 1 is the voice network only ( I had that off )
Lan 2 customer network
and that some of the phones had created a port with the same ext in site B . (maybe when they reg to site B it auto created them ?)

You may want to consider using LLDP in the switches to provision the information in the phones and take the options out of the DHCP server. Or, if your switches support DHCP per vlan as well as options, carve out a block of addresses for each site out of the subnet, exclude the range in your windows server, And provision the correct call server/file server info in each scope at each site. BTW, why on earth are the voice networks for seperate sites in the same subnet? That's just crazy talk. Give site B a fresh new subnet set the bootp relay in site B's switch to your Win dhcp server, build new scope for your new subnet, sit back and enjoy mohito.
