Hello,

I have a site with an R6.0 and 2 port 7.0 partner mail. I had to replace the partner mail once due to a bad storm. Before that I could not log into the system from our office. They started having the same problem again, no voicemail. I would have them power cycle the switch and all would come back on line. After the last time they contacted me I logged in to the system and in the events file found that the system has lost power 63 times in one weeks time. I am planning on taking a new processor and 2 slot carrier with me just in case. But has anyone had this problem or any ideas on what could be happening? The site is telling me that the power is not going out. Hard drive failure maybe?
Thank you for your thoughts.

If the voicemail unit becomes "loud", chances are the hard drive is on the way out.

Other symptoms that can occur include reaching a busy signal if you try to direct access the 2 ports assigned to the voicemail system and the auto attendant not answering incoming calls.

Is it possible that there is a voltage dip is causing the "power failure" reports? If you can float a good UPS for a week or two it may make a difference.

It would be worthwhile to get rid of the small 2 module carrier and replace it with a 5 module carrier, even if the system will never grow beyond 2 modules. The large carrier, even when fully populated, has the modules spaced further apart which allows for better heat dissipation. [smile]

Dexman,

I understand what you are saying with the 5 slot carrier. But I have 155 of these units in 10 states, and only one with this issue. I may swap it out and see if that clears the problem. Thank you for your response. As far as the voicemail I have replaced it with a brand new one. That is why I am leaning towards the carrier or processor.

Hi again!

The carrier and/or processor could very well be the source of the problem. I'd also check the power feed just to be sure that there are no voltage drops occurring.

Telecomtekperson,

Yes on the ground. No on the UPS. Dexman I am leaning that way. I just wanted to find out if anyone has had the same issue.

Thanks,

Could be that you are running "hot" on your 110V supply to the cabinet. But that should show up in some type of problem in the ACS processor also. The R6.0 Messaging uses the same power supply as the ACS processor. I am guessing that PS components are failing or geting ready to. A UPS would filter the 110V as others suggested.

DTGMI,
I have checked the voltage. The reading is 120 volts with a 20 AMP breaker. And it is only pulling 6.5 AMPs on the circuit. I think the unit is failing. But I am kind of leaning the other direction. I think that they are having a brown out and they are not telling me. I have asked the power company to test the transformers that feed that building. But you know how that goes. I am going to put a new UPS in and see if that solves the problem. I just hate putting a band aid on something that could be corrected.

Thanks for all your input.

if you can plug an alarm clock that will revert to blinking midnight at a power loss, do so on the same power strip or outlet as the system. when it happens again, check the time.

cheap power monitor for power loss. cheaper then a new porcessor and time to install. it also makes it clear to the customer it is a power issue, if so.
