6x16 question?

Yes, you can upgrade by changing out the software cartridge.
The main consideration is the 6X16 KSU comes in two flavors, Newer ones have DS and are marked as such. Yours is probably not DS. You cannot interchange the two types of software carts. The non-DS will not support voice mail quite as well, but will still work.
