Hi every one
Today we tried to install an 8 port Gibic module into a 6509 switch.
The switch didn't power up the module and after a minute Spantree re-initialisation started on all of the switch ports and things started to go crazy.
to stabilize the situation we had to remove the newly installed module and every thing went back to normal.
The modules were tested with another switch and worked.
The question is
1. The second switch has a newer IOS version, the first switch has a cat 5.5 installed on it .. Could it be that we need to upgrade our switch to accept this new module?
2.how do we check this in the future to avoid surprises?
thanks for your time and help
