I am studying for the 642-501 exam (will be taking it next Saturday) and have heard some conflicting reports in the study materials I've used (this seems to be very common for Cisco exams), and I wanted to ask someone who has actually taken the exam. Some of the books talk about simulator questions being asked on the exam, while many of them seem to indicate that all of the questions are straight-forward multiple-choice, fill-in-the blanks, etc. Does anyone know for sure if there are any simulator questions on the exam, and if so what might be a typical question?

Thanks for all of the help.

I haven't taken 501 exam yet, though I am still studying for it off-n-on basis.

I would be surprised if there is no simulator question on this exam. Maybe not 3 years ago.

If there is one simulator question out there (maybe 2). It would have one with authentication programming involved exchanging internet keys between two systems. It wouldn't have a specific VPN nor Firewall question because it will probably cover it on other security exam.

I say it is better to prepare even if there is indeed no simulation question.

In case anyone is curious, I took the exam on Sat (I did pass with an 888) and there were two simulator questions. The first required you to enable aaa and specify a TACACS+ server address. The second was to setup an IKE crypto map. They weren't all that tough, and my personal opinion was that this exam was a lot easier than the CCNA one.
