May be a silly question, but I have hardly used the 6408s before here in the UK.

Anwyay, we have a site with them, and they have taken the handsets out and put in headsets. When I was on site, I tested that you could press a call appearance button and it would hangup the call. They are saying when they are on a external call, they cannot hang up the phone - the only way is if they use phone manager. I'm used to the good old 2030s answer release key - but there isn't one on the 6408. Is there some mad way I am missing what to do? None of the emulation functions work....allegedly! Anyone help a poor UK guy?

Ta!

I have uised these phone in a few places.
the emulation fuctions work fine (sometimes better than on a real definity)
to disconnect the call you need to program one of the function keys as DROP.
(the drop fuunction can also be selected from the display menues but it is not what i would call ease of use)

What emulation functions are the customer alleging not to work?

PS you must use 6408D not 6408 or you will have problems.

I shall dial in tonight and try that - cheers for that

In the meantime, they can simply press the headset toggle button twice to drop their current call.

You say they've taken the handsets OUT? As in removed them?? I can see that causing problems - tell the geeks to put the handsets back in and show them how to wire them correctly through the headset amps.

the 6408s only have 1 line in! I think from the 6416s there is a dedicated headset port. The receptionist has a 6424 which is no problem cause of this.

I'm confident the "Drop" will work - tried a few others but missed that feature!

I was not sure if the 6408d had a headset option or not.
I have used the drop option in many casses & it works fine however I would bow my head to any other information peter has on this unit, he probably see's a lot more of them than I ever will.

6408 is compatible with a headset, but can't work in conjunction with a handset - it's either one or the other. 6416 onwards though has a headset port - I think al that is true! My new company has a preference of the 64xx over the 20xx which I'm used to!

I've just come from a disti, so I'm now in the real world finding all these niggly bits out on IP Office!

I think it's a product we all love, but equally hate at the same time!

IPO can cause problems for PBX useres & eng's who are used to other systems for 2 reasons

1) it uses INDeX Handsets but is not an INDeX, things work similar but differently.

2) It uses Definity handsets but is not a definity, things work similar diferently.

If you are using headset amplifier bases, unless the UK really is on a different planet (which frankly I suspect sometimes *grin*) you don't need a dedicated headset port. The amplifier base connects to the headset jack on the phone. The handset plugs into the amplifier base.

Even if you are not using a headset amplifier, but rather the special cord with the fat little quick-disconnect (I forget what it's called, go ahead make fun) you should definatley leave the handsets in their cradles to keep the hookswitch pressed down! Otherwise your emulation features will not work as expected *doh!*

with the handset down dosent it act as a speaker phone?

As I said earlier you use these more then me so I guess I must be missing somthing.

I use 6408 all the time. Leave the handset, programm a headset and a drop button and your are fine.

As arnoud said, you need a headset toggle button (I usually label this button headset status or headset on/off). If this light is on the phone knows you're using a headset and will react accordingly.

Same deal with the 44xx phones btw, they're a lot cheaper and you get a lot more buttons.
