We purchased a new 4 AMD cpu server running windows server 2003 standard 64 with sql2005 64, 8 gig memory against a SAN for all db's and have been disapointed with the speed compared to our old sql 2000 32bit box (some processes run 3x slower).

Aside from the details of performance tuning, are there recommended memory settings for a 64 bit sql server running Dynamics GP exclusively such as the min/max server memory, AWE yes/no etc. Of course I'm looking for a magic bullet so I don't have to go through the tuning process...

TIA,

I am just curious how many users you have ?
How are you judging the performance ?
How big of a database ?

We went for:
1.) The best drives we could get
2.) Memory
3.) Processor

Our Setup
Dedicated SQL Server

Server is about 3years old
Windows 2003 with SQL200
We have a dual Xeon server 15k drives - Raid 0 for C: with OS and Logs. Raid 5 with 4 drives for D: with our database. 4gigs of Ram.
Almost no other software except Norton CE10.0 realtime nearly disabled with nightly scans.

We currently have 40 users and our database is 72 gig +/-

Only slowness we see is at the workstation, I think dynamics demands alot from the workstation, once the request hits our server things hum.
