To make too long a story short, I am currently on XP64 and may not be able to upgrade to Vista, but am trying. (See the vista forum if you like prose).

I thought I had hit pay dirt when I managed to get a legacy Samsung printer to print via DSL("Legacy is anyting over six months old," the Tech Support Team, which will never provide XP64 drivers), but time is showing that it will print a few things, not including envelopes or various program output.

As much as I despise throwing more money at this benighted system, if I can't print billing envelopes I will starve, so I need a printer. Has anyone access to a list of 64bit ready printers??

Also, does anyone know of a site which compares toner cost and output?

Windows Vista may already have your printer driver pre-installed. Have you tried using the Add Printer Wizard to install?

It should, but it doesn't. Still a lot of outstanding drivers. My particular issue has been that the interim OS, XP64 isn't getting drivers. Vista will but does not yet have more.

The certification process is apparently so bone headed and expensive that peripheral producers are not getting them out on time. I have finally arranged with Tiger Direct for the Vista upgrade. In the meantime I have found that the Samsung works well as long as all it needs to do is print from word without envelopes, etc, and I have a work around. After dealing with Samsung on the problem and then bending over backwards with HP and Brother looking for good printers, I have decided that whatever comes, I am continuing with Samsung. They have a slightly lower end printer with MS certification.
