I mainatain a bespoke sales system written in DOS 2.6. My company wishes to upgrade the server from Novell 4.x to MS server 2003 and powered by a 64bit duel Xeon chip. Will the 16 bit app break?

If running the 64 bit version -> YES, not if running the 32 bit version.

Rob.

Solution is to port the FPD 2.6 app to VFP6 or higer.

This is not too difficult when de screens are manually programmed, no screen generators.

Rob.

Grimwaldi,

If the server is being used as a server - to share the fox tables or application, you shouldn't have any problems.
If you plan on running the app itself on the server, you may.

If sreccn generators were being used the standard conversion tool doesn't do a very good job so you have to recreate those screens in forms used by the chosen VFP version.

you have to recreate those screens in forms used by the chosen VFP version.

One (short-term) alternative is to ditch the scx/sct files of the Screen Designer and to just run the generated spr program file in VFP. It will look ghastly and maintenance is a nightmare but it will run and might give you some breathing space whilst you do the rewrite.
