Since Palm install/remove none of the wireless peripherals work correctly on 64 bit system. Latency in starting, etc. According to Palm support (who also says that there will be no peripheral drivers for 64 bit xp at all, but palm will go straight to vista, thank you very much) Palm installation was a "fluke", (which is surprising, since it worked immediately before install and not immediately after, but then who ever admits responsibility????)

I spent a couple of hours with Logitech, who tried to address it but didn't find an answer, so I think it is time to restore. I haven't done this yet and thought to ask for the advice here before forging ahead. What NOT to do, above all.

If I have to wipe and start anew, so be it, but I'd rather have an easier out.

Thanks.

Have you tried System Restore, or even the driver Rollback options?

When you do re-install XP you could just install everything you believe to be safe and workable, leave the more exotic pieces of software and hardware out of the equation until you have made an Image of the XP Partition. After that you can add the suspect software and play around as much as you like knowing that you have an Image to fall back on.

Is your machine under warranty? How long have you been using 64bit XP, perhaps the machine's manufacturer/builder (wasn't you was it?) can become involved?

It is more or less out of warranty by now, I suppose. This is a garage bench model. I fall prey to the urge to control my environment every three or four years and build one. My decision was to go with XP, but seeing that it was upgradable to Vista, I chose XP64. Very bad decision.

I'd rather not do an install, but if I do, your idea is a good one. I have reduced the lag in keyboard to a state where only a pretty fast typist would notice. Unfortunately I am a very fast typist, and it drives me nuts.

The problem with Palm is that it is not an exotic peripheral but a center point of my system. I spoke with them, and it is , of course, one day out of warranty. Wouldn't you know. They have asked to have the info faxed. My requirement is an easy sync, which may be possible with Bluetooth, but not as comfortably as just chucking it into the cradle.

The tech guy for palm says that there are warnings all over the site that it won't work with 64bit, but there are none. Palm has always been squirly. I was tempted to go PC handheld this round, but about $400 into the game, not going to go there now. This is definitley the last Palm.

On a positive note I received and easily installed the Hiro Fax Modem this morning.

How does it type in Safe Mode? Is there any setting in the Bios that controls the speed of the keyboard? Any Speech Recognition software running?

Haven't tried safe mode, buy checking all of the running processes, there is nothing extraneous. Safe mode is good. Was looking to set keyboard in control panel. Bios hadn't occured. Good idea. Will try that. Thanks.
Palm insists that the software install was not the issue (extremely odd coincidence, then). I keep trying to think whether if would have altered some setting. I am sure it wouldn't have had any effect on bios settings, though.
