Working with newly set up 64 bit xp pro. Install shield failed at installation of some program, so following MS support instructions I a) re-registered the existing installer and b) downloaded the update (this isn't the newest version? You can't even get 64 bit drivers for peripherals yet...). Restart and no installation. (For those who have not had the pleasure the error message is: "Error: 1719. Windows Installer service could not be accessed"
Already been through the MS knowledge base tricks (and been subjected to the inane information about me being protected by having to go through extra steps to verify my software, which really benefits them but took my time). Removed/renamed existing installer and reinstalled installer. Same message. Re registered installer. Same message. re re installed. re re registerd. No dice.
OEM, so no support. Aside from a pox on the house of gates, dies anyone have any suggestions for reluctant installers? Installing newest Palm Desktop, but Installer was reticent with recently installed Cardscan, which somehow ended up installed none the less.)
NOte that this is a fresh system and not mucked up with the usual stuff that gets on comuters beside Corel, MS Office, Cardscan, Clipmate and and Eudora, so there shouldn't be a lit of impediments of a basic component working. All previous installer components were removed, and the installed installer is the 64 bit version, or so the web site claims.
A pox, i say, a pox. Anybody seen those PC/Mac ads? It's amazing how right they get it.
