I've set up a couple of VM boxes (221 & 222) on the tvs50 for employees who work on the road. Since they don't have desks, I haven't tied them to any extensions on the 624, and really don't want to use. I can access the mailboxes through the VM system, but outside calls are routed to ext 101 (circular hunting is enabled). Is there any way to give access to these mailboxes to an outside caller, or do I have to sacrifice actual extensions on the 624?

Thanks!

if its a -4 624 you should have VTR button
if you have a custom service menu you'd be able
to get to a virtual mailbox as well.

thanks for the quick reply. it's a kx-ta624. is the -4 refer to a firmware level, or a model. i can't find any reference to a "VTR" button in the installation manual. i'll dig into use of the custom service menu option and try to sort out how it will do what i want - hadn't thought of that yet.

if its not avaliable on your firmware when you
manually transfer a person with a virtual mailbox
you hit transfer key in voicemail ext or hit softkey
for vm then hit #6 plus the mailbox number and
then hangup quick....as far as custom dialing menu
just point a touchtone at a mailbox instead of an ext..

i think that what i'm trying to do is create a logical extension on the 624 that will send an outside caller to the logical (virtual) mailbox on the VPS. from what i can glean, the 624 does not have the capability to create logical extensions - i'm limited to the the physical extensions that exist on the primary and expansion cards. if an outside caller uses the dial-by-last-name directory, the VPS will send to the correct mailbox, but the users want to give out an "extension" number, not a menu path.

so am i stuck with the physical extensions on the 624 and menu paths, or is there some other creative work-around that i'm missing?

nope use a simple custom dialing menus ...
