I have to replace the engine controller board in a Phaser 6200N. But I don't have any documentation on it and my short sited employer didn't bother to aqquire service docs prior to signing the contract. So now I have to figure out how to take the creature apart without any manuals.

Anybody have an idea of how to take the thing apart?

It is a pain to replace the engine board on the 6200 especialy without the manual. Once the overs are off you need to remove the toner cartridge holder assys, it is easiest to remove them all in one piece with the metal shield on the side intact. There are 4 screws under each toner motor, one on top and three that hold the shield on, disconnect teh wiring harnesses and remove the rack v assy and it should come off easily. Then remove the laser assy and yo will have access to the card cage that needs to be removed to access the engine board. What is the problem that you need to replace the engine board?

Not seeing the imaging unit. It's giving the message to install/reseat the imaging unit. Tried a new Xerox imaging unit with no change. The contacts at the imaging unit look good, no appearant damage.

I was thouroughly irritated today. I got the new board installed, but I must have screwed seomthing up. I see no change even with new board and imaging unit. Both items are new Xerox parts. I suspect that the culprit is the spring contact assembly. I didn't know that I had to remove that before pulling the card cage out and mangled the springs somewhat. I was able to straighten them, but either they are still screwed up or there's some other unknown problem.

Sux trying to fix this stuff wihtout the manuals.

On the left side of the printer there is a round white gear and a flat geared piece. Open the top cover which would give you access to the imaging unit, remove the round white gear ther flat one will come off to. Then take the flat one gear teeth towards the rear and position it along the metal frame piece and push it towards the top as far as it will go with the back of it still against the metal, hold it in place while you reseat the round gear. This assy is called the rack-v and if just 1 tooth off will create the message you are getting.

Silly question.. could a paper jam with card-stock cause this? The user wasn't clear about when, but she did say that prior to the message coming up she had a paper jam.

Heck anything is possible but I highly doubt it. I have seen alot of the 6200s exhibit the exact message you mentioned and each time I fixed them by readjusting the rack-v assy.

There can be any number of reasons, shipping, just slipping a tooth as the top cover is engaged. Engineering has not identified any specific reasn why this happens only that it does.

I'll check into that monday afternoon. I sure hope you are right.

The exact same cause, to the same parts described was also the root of 'install or reseat imaging unit' on the Phaser 6250 as well.

To get to the cog parts described, one removes the frame on the top that surrounds the toner stick area. Then one can remove the right side panel, to expose the white round cog at the front upper left side along with teh long white part it drives.
