My First Post of the New Year!
Here’s a note for anyone who has an older large system (4.5 and older with Motorola processors and floppy drives) and needs to do remote backups. Some of you more knowledgeable contributors on this forum may already be aware of this, but I’ve done some extensive searching and haven’t been able to find anything definitive. With Ethernet configured, PDT2 access and a free/donateware program called WinSCP, you can FTP all the files from the last floppy backup by highlighting them all and clicking "download" to a directory on your PC that you select. You will need to determine the date/timestamp from either F1 or F0 Floppy Drive to determine which is the most recent. This program plays nice with the Meridian’s FTP capability. Once all the files are copied to my PC, I can simply archive the files for the dreaded day of reckoning when I will need it. (Now all I need to do is find a usb floppy disk drive to create a replacement diskette to restore from! Assuming I can still find usable diskettes….)
I hope this helps someone besides me!
