Has anyone been able to use the NORTEL branded 6120/6140 handsets with the Aerohibe APs? We are using 6140 handsets and found that if they are AVAYA branded, they will work, but the NORTEL branded will not.

I understand that the AVAYA branded are actually made by Polycom.

Any tips to make them compatible? No encryption, open SSID, but the SSID is not broadcast.

The hardware is the same between the "Nortel" branded and the "Avaya" branded with the only difference between the faceplate. Make sure you are running the same software on both. The latest software is 117.058 and accessible on support.avaya.com under "IP Wireless Phones".

We have tried both the Avaya and the Nortel branded sets. The Nortel do not connect, but the Avaya do. We have attemted to install the latest code on the Avaya and it was bricked.

We have just changed APs from Cisco 1100 series to Aerohive when the problem became visible. We have several sites with many 6120/6140 sets. As soonas the APs were changed, the connectivity died.

I ran into a similar situation recently with my Aruba network WLAN.

It had nothing to do with the wifi or the label on the phone being Nortel or Avaya.

It had to do with firmware.

For recently purchased WLAN 6140 firmware: 115.027 with settings

regulatory domain = *01, *a, *5.150-5.250, *5.250-5350, *5.470-5.725, *5.725-5.825

the phone only sees channels in the 5.150-5.250 range: i.e. 34-48

but does not see channels in the 5.250-5.350 range: i.e. 52-64

and does not see channels in the 5.470-5.725 range: i.e. 100-140

Backed down to 115.025 and they work fine.

Is your aerohive a single channel WLAN?
