I've got a NIM lab set-up composed of a NIM server and client both running 5.1. I attempt a NIM mksysb install on the client and get a hang on LED 611.
This is an NFS error ensure that /etc/exports and /etc/xtab files have all the correct resources exported. Also, check that the resources can be read during an NFS mount. If you have no joy, network booting the client using a debug enabled boot image will tell you which filesystem it cannot mount.
Best of luck PSD

Each time I had this, it was an export problem on the NIM server, or specifically with me not being sure what reverse-lookup was for my client. Verify your name lookup by telnetting to the NIM server (if possible) and do a who; if you can't do that, you will have to verify forward/reverse lookup in your DNS.
The errors should be visible on your NIM server's console or by doing that NIM command that I forget, the one that shows NIM status of a particular host. Should be somewhere in `smit nim`. IBM Certified -- AIX 4.3 Obfuscation
