60% CPU Utilisation on 6509

I have 4 6509's 2x Sup1A and MSFC2 in each, cpu utilisation was 30% running catos 6.3.1, I've uprgaded to catos 8.5.3 and over night the util jumps to 60%. sh proc cpu highlights SptBpduRx process at 74/50/47 and 36% across the 4 sites. pvstp is running across the cats, stp on the edge switches. The 6509's are vtp servers, all edge switches are (or should be) client or transparent mode.

Any ideas on tracking the source of bpdu's or the reason/fault behind them?

The only reason some people are still alive, is simply because it's illegal to kill them!! ;0)

Make sure you are not just randomly allowing all vlans across your trunks . Manually prune off all unneeded vlans from your trunks with the "clear trunk" command for each connection . Also check Cisco for any bugs with the new release you installed.
