I just went through that update on my servers and things went well. However you will also want to update the server.exe that is distributed with the sp5 with an updated one that is supposed to cure some memory leak problems. That is nw65os5a.exe when you look for the file.
On a side note, I also updated e-directory to 8.7.3.8 and updated some security aspects with ssp201.tgz.
All of these updates went on clean and seem to have cured the irritating problems that I suffered from before the updates.

Memory leaks usually happen when using certain Backup Software. There are tweaks you can make, and Novell has a TID. Look up "Memory Fragmentation". SP5 doesn't cause this - this has been an issue with Backup software since SP2.
Nick (Nwoliver) refered to some other updates. There were some NMAS problems introduced in SP4 that SP5 did not fix. But the SSP201.TGZ file (separate download) includes an NMAS upgrade that in conjunction with edir 8.7.3.8, fixes any of these issues that I have seen.
I have applied SP5 in numerous production client sites with no problems whatsoever.
