We're just about to start out upgrade from Galaxy 6.1 to 7.0. I've received the media and am planning the upgrade, however I've got a couple of unanswered questions:

* Will our current v6.1 licenses "just work" after installing v7? We've kept our VIP payments up to date, and although we've got the v7 media we've never had any new license files. Do I need to worry about getting new license files before installing?

* We've got a Magnetic Library license that's currently for 1.6Tb of data. We have, in the past, had occasions (temporarily - not looking to break the license terms) where we've stored more than this and v6.1 hasn't complained: our reseller tells us that the limit wasn't enforced in v6.1 but would be in v7.0. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the Mag library restriction, but I do beleive you'll need a new xml license file for the upgrade. When you request the media I beleive it's on one of the disks. I'm getting mine soon as it's been a while since I've upgraded I don't remember the exact licensing steps.

Just ask your cv contact for the new license file and they can send it to you. Usually its next day.

There never been anything in cv to enforce maglib sizes its a honesty system. Having said that in the last 9months the way its licensed has changed dramatically, primarily from CV adjusting its model to maximise profits to get around new tech such as VTL and Dedup. The biggest win for a customer thou is you can now license on the entire cv installation as opposed to per media agent sizes.

You can upgrade without a new license...you will just need an upgraded license afterwards to unlock new features (you may as well inform CV though that you are about to do an upgrade and they can prepare the license for you in advance)

DDO is still based on 'honesty'
