Does anyone know when 6.0xc will be out and does it truely open the companion ports for other uses?

Thanks,
Perry

The new 6.0 software does NOT open ports 13 and 14 for use with anything else besides Companion sets. They have said that it is more of a hardware issue as opposed to a software issue and they have no plans to open those ports up.

Sorry....... ;-( MRoberts

Yikes...
That is not good news but I appreciate the response...

MR,
Balderdash. I'm sure! Just like the M7324 and 3X8 DR1 incompatability is hardware? But I think we should start another rumour about Nortel starting to sell companion again.

I have a location useing 6.0... But what about XC?
Thanks,
Perry

6.0XC has been available here in Canada for the last month or so, but that is different software that the US version.

They were going to open the ports up but decided to continue selling companion and this is why a lot of people thought they are now open.

Curly,
Is it just the U.S. where Companion is back in Nortel distribution?

PhM

Curly,
Ok. Hear you. Up here the shift away from Companion hasn't slowed down any. Spectra Link seems to be on the rise. This may be due to other reasons however. Issue may be truly clouded because Nortel was to continue with support for some years to come.

Hello All... Just wanted to update you on my findings directly from R&D in Nortel. This is a copy of an E-mail I received.

"Technology did an analysis of what it would take to open up these last 2 ports and it looks to be a very major under taking both in time and R&D $$s. In line with the corporate IP direction I don't believe there will be huge amounts invested in the expansion of Norstar. When you get to that size, Opt 11 or CSE1K is probably the way to go, therefore, it looks as though this isn't going to happen at least this year."

Thanks...
