I'm trying to install the 6.0 evaluation version and can't seem to get past 'go'. After booting from the CD and answering all the pertinent configuration questions (system name, locale, network info, type of NIC, type of mouse, etc.), and having selected to use the 'entire disk for UNIX', it starts to install and then gives me the following error:

/cdrom/.extra.d/usr/bin/swap -a /dev/dsk/c0b0t0d0s1 failed.
The installation has been aborted. To correct the situation you must restart the installation.

Now what is this telling me? And how does restarting the installation correct something when it just goes back to the same error again, and again, and again?

I've even tried using the 'Advanced' file system configuration to setup the hard-drives to be smaller than actual size, to be a different type of filesystem (HTFS), and so forth with no results. I've used 40 GB, 80 GB, and 15 GB hard-drives and still nothing.

I'm loading this on an IBM Netvista Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM, a DVD ROM drive, and I've tried multiple different hard drives. I've tried tweaking the BIOS' IDE settings to both high-performance as well as compatible and I'm totally clueless where to go from here.

I guess it's possible that I have a bad copy of the OS (I downloaded from the HTTP and burned it to CD using NERO) but I don't really think so.

Anyone out there that has seen or experienced this? I'm stumped.

Forget it. I guess I did have a bad copy from the download. I went back and re-burned a new CD image and all seems to be OK now. It doesn't happen too often, but occasionally I get burned by my own ineptitude.

Sorry about that.

Joel
