In another post, you mentioned that someone can get a trusted cert for under $20 that will work for their Exchange server - can you be a bit more specific on the details one would need with that cert in order to work with windows mobile? Meaning, we wouldn't need to install the self-signed cert on each device..

I was under the impression that this was hundreds of dollars per year to achieve this.

About eight years ago, it was hundreds of dollars. But the real overhead on providing a cert is so low that any new player just lowered the cost to pick up customers, and GoDaddy seems to have won for now.

There is no great reason for an SMB to use self-signed certs at this point, since the labor of installing certs on client devices makes the cost of that route exorbitant compared to a GoDaddy cert.

Agree - with certs now down to the level of beer money, even home users should be buying them.
 
But...but...but then they wouldn't have any money for beer! Home users should get their grandmothers to buy them certs for Christmas, and spend their own money on beer.
