Something strange today, patch panel was labelled 568A,so we installed a total of 4 extra wall outlets, installed them as per 568A but the tester said pairs were transposed!! We had to patch them as 568B(Module end, patch panel still patched 568A according to the label) even though the patch panel was wired 568A and all other existing wall outlets were wired 568A(according to their labels). I metered from a patch lead(pig tail end) plugged into a module and found that the colours in a std. patch lead(std as in wired for 568B sequence) matched an existing module that was labeled 568A and a new module labeled 568B(if a new module was wired as per the stick on label for 568A orange and green pairs were transposed which is what the tester said),IE,Patch lead sequence was as per 568B:-white/org,Org/White,white/Grn,Blue/white,white/blue,green/white,white/brown,brown/white all metered straight through to an existing module labeled as 568A and a new module labeled as 568B!! Hope this makes sense??!!

So,are the new modules labels wrong, and when it say's 568A on the label this is 568B and vice versa??!!

What brand and part number are the components? Is it possible that the patchrack is one of those universal ones with a paper legend that you slip in there depending on which way you want to wire it? What order are the pairs on the back of the patchrack? blue/orange/green/brown or are the blue/green/orange/brown? Universal patch panels just swap the legend and ask you to remember the proper order according to the marking.

Sounds interesting, could be bad jacks, but i'm very curious regarding the brand.

Good Luck!

It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!

Maybe the wires were spliced somewhere when the punchdown was moved or the wires had to be rerouted and the splices are causing the change. Just a thought. I have had to make a splice before and caused a similar problem.

The patch panel is un-branded,the modules were Pressac.Looking at the back of the patch panel the top row was Orange/White,White/Orange,Blue/White,White/Blue.The bottom row was White/Green,Green/White,White/Brown,Brown/White.

When i inserted a patch lead(pig tail end) wired 568B into the patch panel and metered the patch lead to the panel the colours matched like for like, which i think means the panel is wired for 568B and not 568A as it is labelled??!!

If this is the case then the existing modules must also be mis-labelled as both ends were labelled as 568A but when we added the new points we had to punch them down as 568B!! (tester reported transpossed pairs when new points were pnched down as 568A which we were simply copying what was alreadt installed)

They were plastic stickers, not juts paper inserts.I think who ever installed it must have wired it for 568B but left the 568A wiring codes stuck on??? The pressac modules we use are deff. labelled correctly, they test out OK when patched as per the label for 568A and 568B (so long as thge patch end it correct also obviously!!) My assumption is if i'm metering the module using a patch lead wired for 568B then each colour on the patch lead should match upto each colour in the module??(using a continuity test) If i used a patch lead wired for 568A then the same should also be true if it is indeed wired for 568A?? Hope this all makes sense!

The patch cord you use T568A or T568B makes no difference.
The easiest way to tell what type of panel you have is with a continuity tester.
Take one lead and insert it in the patch panel jack face on the far left, so it makes contact with pin 1 and maybe 2, then test the orange and green slots on the D4 connectors on the back of the patch panel. If it shows continuity on the green, you have a T568A panel, if orange it is T568B.

Don't blast the no names. I have had the same problem with one of the big names. One who in fact told me every panel was tested before shipping.......

I got two that were labeled 568A and were 568B.

Not mentioning any names, but all their cat 5 product has gold labeling.
