dear all

I am failing to setup a 5550 ip console on customer site with two VLANS, my 3300dres controller is acting as the DHCP server IP 10.10.2.3, range 10.10.2.10-10.10.2.100, VLAN 2, HP switch router is the Gateway :10.10.2.249 and VLAN1 for data gateway is 10.10.1.249, 5550ip console static addrdess 10.10.2.9, IP license 50 and used are only 30 ip devices.
Option 125 id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=10.10.2.3;call_srv=10.10.2.3;vlan=2;l2p=6;dscp=46;ipa_srv=10.10.2.4

any idea or lead? I also followed the IP 5550 Trouble shooting guid,in the 3300THB, where they suggust disabling PIC NIC 802.1q.

NB controller running on software version 9.0

how is the port on your hp switch configured?
there are several ways to do this and the preffered way.
here's how:

assign port for console as data NO and Voice Untagged.
when you plug your pc in, does it get a voice ip from the controller? if yes GOOD!

connecting your console, it will broadcast for IP in the voice vlan.

how do other phones get IP from the controller, are you using IP Helpers?

other issues: old software on console may make it not understand option 125 so use 128 129 and 130 too, just in case.

let us know how you get on

Here are the HP Switch config sent by the customer

hi

i have tried what you said but to no avail, maybe i am doing it all wrongly. i am not using ip helpers either. the pc is getting ip address from the data vlan and the keyboard console from the Voice vlan.

how would i use the ip helpers?

thanks in advance

i'm not seeing any untagged ports in the voice vlan. the ports for the controller and consoles should be untagged.

the fact that the keypad console is getting IP from the controller and the pc from the data DHCP server says that the ports are not configured correctly.

again ports for PC/keypad and controller should be NO for DATA and UNTAGGED for voice. In essence the PC for the keypad should get an IP from the controller and NOT the DATA.

any data work the pc requires to do can be achieved via a default gateway, in other words routing.

the tech handbook has a good config outlay for HP switches that, if I remember correctly, gives the commands necessary to configure the switch ports.

IP helpers are only required if you have a subnet that doesn't have a DHCP server. yOu have two dhcp servers so you probably don't need this.

disabling the second nic card is the right thing to do.

Thanks i will give it a go, have to go to site and implement this. will let you know once i try it.

thanks again

If the 5550 console has never been up, then it will likely have old firmware and not understand option 125. Put the old options in on both voice and data vlans and try,

Thanks you all!

I managed to have it up and running! i had all ports untagged for Data, tagged for Voice Vlans except Controller port, No Data and Untagged for Voice. The other Option is to have Controller, Keypad and Console PC ports Untagged for Voice and No for Data but this will require two Cable drops for Console PC and Keypad. I am not so sure why this is?

I hope this will help others.

Once again thanks Guys!

no reason to have two cables for consoles if you have inter-vlan routing enabled. even though the pc has a voice ip, you could easily route traffic for data.

use this method for ALL my installations and don't have issues ;)

maybe i had the switch configured wrongly somehow or i missed something. Here are the configurations that would require me to have two cable run..

hostname "Upstairs 2"
trunk 25 Trk1 LACP
trunk 26 Trk2 LACP
ip default-gateway 10.10.1.1
ip routing
snmp-server community "public" Unrestricted
vlan 1
name "Data"
untagged 2-23,Trk1-Trk2
no untagged 1,24
ip address 10.10.1.249 255.255.255.0
exit
vlan 2
name "Voice"
ip address 10.10.2.249 255.255.255.0
tagged 2-23,Trk1-Trk2
untagged 1,24
exit
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.10.1.1
spanning-tree Trk1 priority 4
spanning-tree Trk2 priority 4
..

With this configuration, the PC and Console Keypad are both on Vlan 2, either static or DHCP. but still couldn't work untill i added in a third port in this Vlan and additional cable run.

where did i go wrong?
