Hi All

Has anybody been experiencing more issues than ever with trying to boot IP Consoles?

I'll give an example

Cisco Switches using CDP. (which tech handbook says supports 5550). When you power up the keypad, you can't get it to register (Red ight going out). If you do a trace, the console gets the right Vlan and the IP address but then suddenly switches back to using the native vlan Vlan 1! Really bizarre

Another site we couldn't get the Pc app to connect either. Seems to be worse over the last 6 months.

Anybody else had issues?
 
Hi Matt,

IP address assigned to 5550 console can be assigned statically via DHCP reservation. One cannot hardcode IP address on console due to the fact that there is no display prompt on console to navigate IP address menu.

To prevent IP address from changing during operation, Mitel recommends to reserve static IP address either through DHCP reservation via external DHCP server or within the DHCP static IP form in the 3300 ICP.

no, it's not the IP address that's changing, seems to be the VALN!! Somthing seems to tell it it's not tagged so go back to Native VLAN

Very weird, seem to be having loads of problems with consoles lately. Forgot to mention we're traying to do this with PC and Keybad both on voice vlan using CDP

Can someone try this? Set up a port on a cosco switch:

Keypad Vlan 10
PC Vlan Vlan 10

Port programming:

switchport mode access
Switchport voice vlan 10
switchport access vlan 10

Programme up a console on thew 3300

Power up the console on the Port programmed above. See if you can get it to register (red light turn out)

Then see if you can get the console software to load

Let me know

Just out of interest, why are you putting the PC on the voice vlan.

the customer wants to keep the console seperate to the pc network

I had the same issue with my console back in June. It was working for 5 weeks and it did the same thing. Mitel replaced the console keypad console and it's working fine since.

Also. the Mitel installer reserved the IP for console PC, not console keypad. So, I fixed that error as well. My console PC is also on voice vlan but it has DHCP IP from 3300 controller.

What switches are you plugged into? Cisco?

It's not the keypad, took a known working one on site and still no joy.

Does the 5550 support option 125 or do you have to use 128 etc to get it to work?

I use Cisco 3750. It's configured:

switchport access vlan xxx
switchport mode access
priority-queue out
mls qos cos 6
mls qos trust dscp
spanning-tree portfast

I'm not sure which option it's using. When the phone boots up, I notice that it uses option 125.
 
If you have both devices on the same VLAN, why not just untag the Voice VLAN for that switch port?
 
Try making the switch port only a member of the Voice VLAN, no other VLANs. Not entirely sure how to do that on the Cisco.
 
I Had an issue with the console on a new install a couple weeks ago. it was similar to this in that you would launch the app but the operator absent/present buttons would not ever light up. Anyways after lots of installs on different pc's I found out you have to update java before loading the console. im mentioning it because a bunch of people told me "maybe it because you are on the data vlan" worth a shot?
 
Thanks guys.

We got a temp fix by putting the pc and keypad on different ports, one in the voice vlan and 1 in the data. Not ideal and will raise with 3rd line
