553 5.5.2 Bad recipient format

getting error 553 5.5.2 Bad recipient format and Bad Sender format. Symantec has a knowledge base article that instructs the following:

1. Stop the firewall using the command: net stop "symantec enterprise firewall and vpn"
2. Locate the line in config.cf: #smtpd.rcpt_path_use_bracket=true
3. Edit the line to read: smtpd.rcpt_path_use_bracket=false
4. Restart the firewall using the command: net start "symantec enterprise firewall and vpn"

simple enough. stopped the service made the edit change, restarted the service. and still have the problem.

anybody seen this one?

We recently re-built our perfectly working Raptor 652 to 7.0 on Windows 2k and started getting the problem you are seeing. (we built on W2k Pro NOT server as we dont need all the server stuff for the firewall and SEF70 disables it anyway)

Symantec released a hot fix for the SMTP daemon which needs to be installed to fix it.

I'd suggest installing all the appropriate hotfixes while you are at it.

Also don't install on w2k service pack 3 , only service pack 2

thanks bmulvey, I completely understand what you mean by "recently re-built our perfectly working Raptor 652 to 7.0 on Windows 2k". the new flavor is a little quirky.

going thru the patch steps did clear out that problem and create another one.

SG7000-2002-0819-00 stops the ability to log in to secure sites for some reason. and it's recommended for all systems. geez I had to back up to a previous patch.
