Hi,
I am looking at the 5520-48T-PWR switches. I have 4 floors of call center type structure to provide IP transport for. Looking at the PoE aspect of these switches aswell to provide power to cameras and Ip phones. Due to the length of distance of cat6 wiring I cannot wire all Cat6 to one wirirng closet.

My question: Could I stratigically place 5520-48T-PWR and 5520-24T-PWR in different corners of each floor and uplink the switches via the fiber ports provided? What is this called? Could I still take advantage of the true stacking that is possible when you stack em' one on top of the other?

Any diagrams depicting this would be great or comments on such scenarios would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You!!

What is your infrastructure ? Do you have a copper or a fiber backbone between floors and your core devices ?
Need more info for a reasonable solution.
Also consider future requirements;I'll bet IT has some data solutions/requirements.

Sure thanks... its a new installation. We wiring the floors in CAT6 - direct to IP Phone/workstation (to the wiring closet on each floor) and interconnecting the switches between floors via conduits and fiber. Each floors' wiring closet is one on top of the other.

Turns out we'll be able to stack 2 5520-48 per floor in the same wiring closet as the 100meter rule will not be passed. As confirmed by the cable techs but I will test the cable length prior to my signoff to them.

So it is my lack of inexperience that I am seeking advise on - now that I have the space on each floor, on top of each other and can take advantage the stacking ability of the 5520's so like 2 x 48 prt ones. What is the best way to link the other switches on each floor. My first thought would be to use the built in fiber ports one for rx and the other for tx. I am seeking a visual perhaps to make it a but clearer.

thank you!

Do you have a switch at the core you are going to connect the 5520-48 to ? We have a 8606 with dual fiber gbic connections. These are set up as MLT to two buildings with
470-48t switches. The 470 switches are cascaded in each data closet.
I would use the fiber to link the switches if at all possible.
