VMware/VirtualPC/Virtual Server requires a hefty new PC to run more than 2 virtual servers... It is an easier way in that the software helps you past any driver difficulties; but it may not be cheaper than buying a couple or three PCs of "P2/400MHz, 256MB PC100 RAM, 2 GB HD, 2xCDROM" class, a minihub, a couple network cables, and the eval software usually packed with the MSPress or Sybex books...
And there is something useful in having screwed something up royally and having had to work through the steps of clearing it up... I know in my case it helped me answer some of those on the 70-296...
here is a hint:
I personally would have loved to had a P4/3.6GHz PC with 4GB RAM and a lot more drive space... but for the over $1,000 that would cost you could buy all of the books, older PCs, software, networking equipment/cables, printers, scanners, and practice tests you need...
It's all about choices... BTW, Belkin and others make great 2-way KVM switches for under $20 so you don't need a monitor per PC... you can get those metal storage racks for under $50 (Take your pick at Walmart, Sam's Club, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.) with enough shelves to mount *10* PCs securely...
Save the space and electricity and you'll need a more expensive PC... save the money on the PC and you'll need a spare room... and those PCs will heat up the room by about 5 degrees Fahrenheit each... so winter is better than summer...
Either way you get the hands-on experience and you're more valuable as an employee--and coworker--than someone who lucked in with TK or the equivalent...
Setnaffa is an MCSA-2k3 (working on MCSE-2k3) with a few other certs, too...
