550 Hostname/Domain name not valid or not available

Hi. Running GW 6.5 here, and one of my users complains that he's suddenly not able to send a message to a person he's emailed before. I tried to send to this person, and the message I got back was:

550 Hostname/Domain name not valid or not available

My GW thinks this name isn't valid. It only took a few seconds for the bounceback to come back to me, so I'm thinking this is definitely internal. Any ideas?

Is the domain name valid? Can you ping it?
