I have two domains (two trees in a forest) using one Exchange site. One domain has a problem with (I believe) its recipient policy. I have two recipient policies in addition to the default - one for mailboxes on each of two servers (hence each of the two domains). I have one MX record that sends all mail addressed to domain.edu to server1. I have an alias that points addomain1.domain.edu to the same server. The policy shows as the primary SMTP address addomain1.domain.edu. When SOME users try to communicate with SOME external mail systems, their correspondents get the beloved 550 5.7.1 unable to relay message when they hit "reply". The message shows the server name of the mail server their account is on (not too cool, in my opinion).
I just changed the policy that applies to their server to have the primary SMTP address as domain.edu. Do you think this is the answer to this problem?
